Why we picked this company

GEICO, a subsidiary of the Berkshire Hathaway Group, is the third-largest U.S. insurer by market share. In addition to auto insurance, GEICO sells homeowners, renters, flood, travel, life, and business insurance, among other products.

The insurer offers numerous car insurance discounts to help drivers save. For example, drivers who are accident-free for five years could earn 22% off premiums, and good students could earn 15% off. GEICO’s National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) complaint index score is below average, meaning it receives fewer consumer complaints than average.

Pros
  • Good rates for good drivers, seniors, and young drivers

  • Accident forgiveness available

Liability Only
Liability-only insurance, sometimes called minimum-coverage insurance, pays for bodily injury and property damage to others in an accident the policyholder causes. It does not pay for the insured’s own damages.

Full Coverage
Full-coverage car insurance generally includes liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage, and may include other optional coverages such as uninsured motorist coverage. Why we picked this company

The fourth-largest U.S. auto insurer by market share, Allstate is available in all 50 states. The company has been in business for more than 90 years and also sells home, renters, and condo policies — so it’s a good option for those who want to save by bundling auto with another type of policy.

Allstate also offers helpful optional auto coverages, like gap insurance and accident forgiveness. AM Best gives the company a high rating for financial strength, but Allstate has a higher-than-average number of complaints on the NAIC Consumer Complaint Index.

Pros
  • Ample opportunities for bundling discount

  • Offers a pay-per-mile option

  • A+ (Superior) financial strength rating from AM Best

Cons
  • Low customer satisfaction

  • Rates are merely average compared to other insurers

  • Below-average rank for customer satisfaction in many regions, according to J.D. Power’s 2024 U.S. Auto Insurance Study

How to ensure you have enough coverage on your Jeep

Jeep owners can choose from various insurance products and coverage options, ranging from liability-only coverage to full-coverage insurance with additional endorsements. Liability coverage is typically cheaper than a full-coverage insurance policy but doesn’t offer as much financial protection.[3]

If you’re shopping around for insurance for a new Jeep, you should consider purchasing more than your state’s minimum coverage requirements. If you’re financing or leasing your vehicle, your lender will likely require you to purchase full-coverage insurance.

Consider the following optional coverages that provide extra vehicle protection in various situations:

    Collision coverage

Collision coverage can pay for your vehicle repairs following damage from a collision with another vehicle or object, even if you’re at fault. Though states don’t require drivers to buy this coverage, your lender or dealer may require you to buy it if you lease or finance your Jeep.

    Comprehensive coverage

If you have vehicle damage resulting from non-collision incidents, like weather-related events, theft, or vandalism, comprehensive coverage can kick in to cover the repair or replacement costs. You may need to buy this coverage if you finance or lease your Jeep.

    Medical payments (MedPay) coverage

Depending on the state you live in, you can buy medical payments insurance to cover the cost of medical bills, treatment, and funeral expenses for you and your passengers following an accident. This coverage typically has limits.

    Personal injury protection (PIP) coverage

Also dependent on the state you live in, PIP insurance can cover the costs of medical and non-medical expenses related to injuries suffered in a car accident. Non-medical expenses include lost wages, child care costs, and funeral expenses.

    Roadside assistance coverage

Specifics vary by insurer, but roadside assistance coverage typically provides services to help policyholders return to the road safely following a flat tire, lockout, jump-start, and more.

Jeep insurance FAQs

Shopping around for car insurance quotes for your Jeep is a smart way to help you find the best rates and plan. The information below should help answer any of your remaining questions about insuring your Jeep.

  • Car insurance rates can fluctuate for Jeep drivers, but Hugo, USAA, and State Farm have some of the cheapest insurance rates for Jeep drivers. Other cheap car insurance companies offering lower-than-average rates include GEICO, Nationwide, and Allstate. The best way to find the right car insurance coverage for you is to compare quotes from multiple insurers.

  • Not especially. The average cost to insure a Jeep is $181 per month for full coverage and $110 for liability coverage. This is similar to the national average rate of $196 per month for full coverage and $105 for liability insurance.

  • Not really. When compared to the national average of $196 per month for full coverage and $105 for liability, Jeep Wrangler insurance rates are about the same. On average, full-coverage insurance for Jeep Wrangler costs $189 per month, while liability-only insurance is $112 per month.

  • Not necessarily. Insurance plans often only cover normal vehicle use on regulated roads, so if you plan to use your Jeep’s off-road capability, it’s a good idea to check your policy terms closely or talk to customer service to make sure your policy covers off-road driving.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 50+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
