  • Our editorial team spent more than 350 hours developing the Insurify Quality (IQ) Score and scoring insurance companies. The IQ Score objectively analyzes and calculates a score for insurers using more than 15 crucial criteria. The team weighted criteria by importance to the consumer — factors such as customer reviews and affordability influence the score more than availability and third-party ratings.

We rate each company on a 1 to 10 scale based on five categories: financial ratings, customer satisfaction, affordability, customer support and transparency, and availability. Insurify updates ratings once a year or as more recent information becomes available.

    • Third-party financial ratings: Insurify uses data from AM Best, S&P, Moody’s, and more to compare insurance companies’ credit and ability to pay out future claims.
    • Customer satisfaction: To calculate this score, Insurify analyzed more than 55,000 customer reviews across 155 car insurance companies. We also consider third-party ratings from J.D. Power, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and Trustpilot.
    • Affordability: Our data scientists analyzed more than 90 million real-time auto insurance rates from our partners across the U.S., as well as available discounts, to calculate an affordability score.
    • Customer support and transparency: This measures coverage options, ease of claims filing, and the insurer's transparency surrounding discounts, coverages, and claims process.
    • Availability and reach: Insurify scores availability and reach by identifying the number of states in which insurers offer coverage and company size by market share.

Promised savings that didn't materialize

They provided me with an insurance policy for my first car, which was quite expensive. Later, they sent me an email suggesting I could save more by bundling my car insurance with my renter's insurance. However, this turned out to be untrue as I didn't end up getting a better deal. They also sent me an email offering a free policy review, promising 'tons of savings options'. But, there were no additional savings for me. It's hard to believe they can make such misleading claims.

How to get the cheapest car insurance in Lubbock

Insurers consider age, marital status, vehicle choice, household members, and whether you own a home when setting premiums. But your driving record, auto insurance history, and credit score also have an effect.

Considering all that, finding wallet-friendly car insurance in Lubbock isn’t impossible. Here’s how to lock in affordable rates:

  • Bundle your auto and home coverage. Combining your car insurance with other policies, like home or renters insurance, can qualify you for discounts of up to 25%.

  • Increase your deductible. A higher deductible can lower your premiums. Just make sure you can cover the cost when the time comes to file a claim.

  • Drive safely. A clean driving record is key to qualifying for the best rates.

  • Plan ahead. Purchase your new policy before your current one expires to qualify for savings.

  • Shop around. Don’t settle for the first quote you get. Compare quotes from different insurers to make sure you get the best coverage at the lowest price.

Car insurance requirements in Texas

Texas law requires 30/60/25 coverage. That means your policy must have $30,000 of bodily injury liability coverage per person, $60,000 of bodily injury liability per accident, and $25,000 of property damage liability coverage.

Your Texas car insurance will also include personal injury protection (PIP), which pays medical expenses, lost wages, and other non-medical costs for you and your passengers. But you can opt out of PIP coverage by notifying your insurer in writing.[1]

Coverage
sort ascsort desc
Minimum Requirements
sort ascsort desc
Bodily injury liability$30,000 per person / $60,000 per accident
Property damage liability$25,000 per accident

A crucial consideration is that the minimum coverage requirements may not be enough to protect you financially in an accident. Because you’re responsible for covering damages and injuries if the cost exceeds your policy limit, the Texas Department of Insurance recommends increasing your coverage levels.[1]

You can also purchase additional coverage for even more protection:

Texas insurance laws and programs

Texas has a few other notable insurance laws and programs for Lubbock drivers. For instance, your insurer automatically covers new cars you buy for about 20 days after purchase. And if you rent a car, your insurance policy coverage for your vehicle generally covers you if you drive it for personal use but not if you use it for work.

Although you’re probably less likely to venture into Mexico than someone who lives in Candelaria, it’s important to note that your insurance policy isn’t any good once you cross the border — American auto policies won’t protect you in Mexico. At a minimum, you’ll need an endorsement from your insurer, but you should consider a Mexican liability policy.

Cheapest car insurance for drivers with an incident

At-fault accidents, speeding tickets, and DUIs are all types of incidents that can show up on your driving record. Violations like this can classify you as a higher-risk driver. Because insurers look at your driving record when quoting coverage, they’ll likely charge you higher rates for coverage.

But you can still find affordable car insurance from plenty of insurers. Below, you’ll find the best options for drivers with blemishes on their driving records.

Cheapest car insurance for seniors: State Farm

Car insurance premiums tend to become more affordable as drivers reach age 25. But once you hit age 70, you may see rates start to climb. Fatal accident rates increase for drivers 70 and older, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.[4] The increased risk translates to higher insurance prices, underscoring the importance of shopping around for coverage.

Senior drivers in Lubbock pay average liability rates of $85 per month and full-coverage rates of $172 per month. Below are average monthly car insurance quotes for seniors in the city.

Cheapest car insurance for teens: GEICO

It’s no secret that teen drivers pay higher car insurance rates than other drivers. Young drivers present a greater risk than other age groups due to a lack of experience behind the wheel and a higher probability of engaging in risky behavior when driving, especially when friends are in the car.[5]

On average, teen drivers in Lubbock pay $418 per month for full coverage and $207 per month for liability-only coverage.

But you aren’t doomed to pay sky-high insurance costs. A few strategies can help lower your rates, such as:

  • Staying on a parent’s insurance policy

  • Driving a safe car with advanced safety features

  • Maintaining good grades to qualify for a good student discount

Below are average insurance quotes for teens in the city.

Methodology

Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 50+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Quote averages represent the median price for a quote across the given coverage level, driver subset, and geographic area.

Unless otherwise specified, quoted rates reflect the average cost for drivers between 20 and 70 years old with a clean driving record and average or better credit (a credit score of 600 or higher).

Liability-only premium averages correspond to policies with the following coverage limits:

  • Bodily injury limits between state-minimum rates and $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage limits between $10,000 and $50,000
  • No additional coverage
Full-coverage premium averages correspond to the same bodily injury and property damage limits in addition to:
  • Comprehensive coverage with a $1,000 deductible
  • Collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Quotes for Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, State Farm, and USAA are estimates based on Quadrant Information Services’ database of auto insurance rates.
